Tek.Xam - Measuring Technology Skills
The Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges (VFIC), which created Tek.Xam, has joined with the Chauncey Group to "develop a plan for colleges and employers to administer the test as a broad assessment tool measuring ones technical proficiency. The test will help determine the depth and breadth of the test-takers skills and abilities in solving problems within technical applications, such as the Internet and specific computer applications."

The five part Tek.Xam has been under development for two years, which included test runs on various campuses. Nearly 70 colleges and universities have agreed to participate as testing sites as the exam is made available nationwide. In addition, more than 30 corporations have endorsed the test as a reliable measure of a person's broad technical skills.

Tek.Xam is designed for college students, and those already in the workplace, to provide a credential that they possess technology skills and can also analyze, problem solve, draw conclusions and communicate those conclusions. With this test employers or potential employers can better assess the technical proficiency no matter what degree or technological experience a person may have in a world that requires more and more technological skills.

The Community Health Status Indicators (CHSI) Project provides a profile of the overall health status of the 3,082 U.S. counties. The CHSI reports offer data on population characteristics, four summary measures of health, leading causes of death, measures of birth and death, vulnerable populations, environmental health, preventive services use, risk factors for premature death and access to care. It is also possible to compare "peer counties" that share characteristics of population size, density, age distribution and poverty.
