The United Kingdom Royal College of Midwives, has found evidence of what it characterizes as disparities in professional discipline based on ethnicity. According to the results of Freedom of Information requests sent to 24 healthcare trusts in London, while 32 percent of midwives in London are characterized as being either black, or black British, 60 percent of those disciplined were black or black British. Furthermore, in those instances where sanctions were imposed, these appeared to be harsher depending on ethnicity. In fact, all 10 midwives dismissed during the timeframe researched were either black, or black British.
