The Law Society of Upper Canada’s recent governing council meeting revealed significant concern among legal professionals regarding the state of the profession in Ontario. Many practicing lawyers in the province expressed the opinion that lowered entry to practice standards and poor quality legal education has reduced the capability of students coming out of Law Schools’ ability to practice law effectively. Other concerns revolved around providing support and parental leave to women in the profession and the future of articling in the profession.
