Pennsylvania Waives 2013 License Fee for Physicians

Due to a significant surplus accrued by the Pennsylvania Medical Regulation Board, the organization has decided to waive all licensing fees for 50,000 licensed Physicians.   Fees were raised in 2003 to offset anticipated additional expenses due to enhanced malpractice legislation.  The legislation did not result in additional investigations or resource expenditure on the part of the board, leading to the current surplus.   The fee waiver, however, has been met with some criticism from professionals and public organizations who suggested using the additional resources to enhance the complaints and discipline process.
