UK government report unveils changes to professional regulation

30-Jul-10 20:55 | anonymous
Liberating the NHS: Report of the arms-length bodies review has identified a series of changes that will be made to professional regulation in the United Kingdom (UK). The General Social Care Council (GSCC), the regulator of social care workers in England will be abolished and its regulatory function will transfer to the Health Professions Council (HPC). HPC will be renamed to reflect its new remit. The Council for Healthcare Regulatory Excellence (CHRE), which oversees professional regulators, will become self-funding via a levy on those it regulates. Finally, the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the regulator of health and social care in England, will take on a strengthened role as a quality inspectorate.
