CLEAR News - Spring 2002

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
By Donna H. Mooney

In the wake of the tragic events of 9/11, CLEAR continues to prove why it is such a wonderful organization and each of you deserves part of the well-earned credit. Following the unexpected cancellation of the annual conference in September, your support for the rescheduled annual meeting in January was truly remarkable and we look forward to seeing most of you again in Las Vegas. Since meeting dates for the Annual Conference are set many years in advance we had no way to anticipate that the major travel date to the Las Vegas conference will mark the anniversary of The Attack on America. Recognizing that some of you may not feel comfortable traveling on that date, CLEAR plans to offer a half day pre-conference seminar on ethics. We invite you to travel early and join us for this pre-conference activity.

The resolve and determination of our membership was very much in evidence during the midyear meetings in San Antonio. I'd like to share with those of you who could not attend some of the great things that happened during these meetings. I had already established a theme of RECRUIT, RECLAIM and RETAIN for this year and formally presented it as a framework for the committees' activities in January. (To quickly recap from my Fall 2001 President's column, RECRUIT refers to actively identifying and seeking out those throughout the world who can provide depth to our organization. RECLAIM means demonstrating to former members that we are still valuable to them, and RETAIN means rewarding those members who have remained loyal throughout the years, ensuring that their needs are met and their contribution recognized.)

Some of the new activities now underway as a result of these highly energized committee meetings include:

All of these activities will be monitored by a Membership Initiative Group, which will assume responsibility for gathering the necessary resources to accomplish the goals of the individual committees.

It turns out that I was right about you all along. All we have to do is ask and you will step forward to meet today's challenges. Thank you. I know that you will not be disappointed with what we give you in return this year.
