CLEAR News - Summer 2005

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

By Bonnie Rhea Adams
July 2005

Summer is here, which means that CLEAR’s 25th annual conference is just around the corner. I’m excited both about the special anniversary program our committee is putting together and the beautiful meeting location at the Pointe South Mountain Resort. Of course, we’ll be there to work and learn, but just in case you can get a few hours on your own while there, you should know that:

The Oasis, named "one of the top 10 theme parks in the nation" by The Travel Channel, is on the grounds of our meeting property.

CLEAR conference attendees can save 10% on advance tour bookings through Open Road Tours, which offers tours to the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Canyon Lake, and many other magical Southwestern destinations.

The Desert is a Myth,” brought to you by the greater Phoenix Convention and Visitors Bureau, can help you decide what to do while in the Valley of the Sun.

Details about plenary speakers and other conference highlights will be sent to you throughout the summer. Just be sure to book your hotel reservations early because this is definitely a  conference to attend!

Montreal, Quebec, November 2004

I wanted to share with you this picture from one of the highlights of my CLEAR Presidency - a trip to represent CLEAR during the 30th anniversary celebration of the professional code for the regulation of Quebec professions. It was an honor to be included in such a momentous event.

CLEAR’s Board of Directors
Following a recent member comment period, CLEAR’s Board of Directors adopted the set of draft bylaws simplifying and strengthening our governance process. A copy of the revised document is available to members through CLEAR’s Web site.

The board traveled to Lexington, Kentucky this month to continue its work on planning for CLEAR’s future. The members conducted a detailed analysis of your survey comments and are finalizing a 2005-2009 organizational plan, tying much of what you said to CLEAR’s two strategic directions1. I’ll share the final report with you at the annual conference and also have it placed online for the benefit of our members.

We’re pleased that you like the new CLEAR News Online. It really is such a helpful resource on what’s happening today in professional and occupational regulation. Just let staff know if there are items from your area that are of general interest to the regulatory community. Plans are underway to add information on historical documents concerning the theory and practice of regulation so they will be easily available for your review.

As always, thank you for supporting CLEAR and I’ll see you in Phoenix in September!

1 * The strategic directions: In 2009, CLEAR will be recognized for its unique expertise, and comprised of an expanded and diverse membership. CLEAR will use a business approach to ensure a strong resource base through collaboration, innovation, and best practices
