PRESIDENT'S REPORT TO THE CLEAR MEMBERSHIP

By Bonnie Rhea Adams
September 2005

As the end of my presidency approaches and I reflect on the past year, it is amazing how quickly the time has gone by and yet how much change has happened during this seemingly short time.

CLEAR has new bylaws, a new organizational plan, the helpful results of a comprehensive member survey (a big “thank you” to those of you who participated), and a 25th anniversary to celebrate.

It is also my pleasure to report to you on the new President-Elect and members of the Board of Directors. Under CLEAR’s bylaws, the board may accept a slate of candidates by acclamation if the number of candidates is equal to the number of open positions. Since this situation has occurred this year, it is my pleasure to announce the election of the following CLEAR leaders:

President Elect: Budd Hetrick, Idaho
Re-Elected to the Board:

André Gariépy, Montreal
Kristin Hellquist, National Council of State Boards of Nursing
Ruby McClain, South Carolina
Kate Nosbisch, Virginia

Elected to new Board Service: Jayne Bunn, North Carolina
Jim Dunsdon, Ontario

I would also like to recognize those board members who are retiring from service:

Faye Lemon, Virginia
David Monahan, Massachusetts
Deanna Williams, Ontario

A list of activities details what CLEAR did this year and, if you take a minute to look it over, the range of activities we have undertaken might surprise you. They would not have been possible if it had not been for all of you, our wonderful members and supporters. I would especially like to thank so much the committee chairs, vice-chairs, and members who provided oversight and time and expertise to accomplish all the good things that happened this year. I hope each of you found the experience a rewarding one and that you will continue as a CLEAR volunteer in the years to come.

As I write this, I am looking forward with anticipation to the Phoenix meeting. It is a privilege to be able to preside over CLEAR’s silver anniversary activities. The annual conference program is outstanding, the host state agencies have been wonderful, and there are many extra touches that will make this conference a memorable one. Certainly, CLEAR is an organization that people do not forget. Over the years, 23 people have served CLEAR as its president and we are fortunate that 15 of these will be present during the Friday morning plenary session.

Thank you for allowing me to serve as your 2004-2005 president. Please know that my commitment to CLEAR will continue and if there is ever anything I can do to help you become more involved in CLEAR, just let me know.
