Illinois central agency approves practitioner involvement with online daily deals

The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation has approved the involvement of practitioners in daily deals such as Groupon, following requests for clarification about whether such arrangements would be considered fee-splitting and thus prohibited. The Illinois decision is consistent with a similar ruling issued by the North Carolina Medical Board. Meanwhile, in Oregon, the state's boards of dentistry and chiropractic examiners worked with the providers of such deals on a model for contracts that would not violate prohibitions on fee-splitting.
