At CLEAR's 2013 Annual Educational Conference, the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba presented about scope of practice changes to the registered nurse role.  This presentation, The Responsive Regulator: Adapting Scopes to Public Need spoke about the upcoming role of the RN prescriber in Manitoba, Canada.  This change to RN scope of practice would bring prescriptive authority in the areas of contraception, the treatment and/or identification of sexually transmitted infections/blood borne pathogens and travel health vaccinations.

Conference attendees requested a follow-up session focusing on the background discussions with practitioners and the needs assessment process.  In response, this webinar recording includes the initial work done when the RN prescriber role was being considered and will include:

  • the needs assessment for the RN prescriber role
  • discussion on support from various stakeholders
  • an update on the project.

New legislation will provide authority to order and receive diagnostic tests, diagnose conditions and prescribe medications specific to the above areas.
