President's Message

By Darrel S. Crimmins

April 2014

As spring is upon us, the harsh winter fades into our memories. Many CLEAR members braved the frigid temperatures and travel delays caused by dramatic winter storms to come together for another successful mid-year meeting. Thanks to the tremendous work of all the members of the Program Committee, we have an excellent program with numerous innovations planned for the annual educational conference in New Orleans. The brochures have been mailed and online registration is open. We look forward to seeing everyone September 11 to 13, 2014.

Vancouver, one of Canada's warmest cities, was the site for CLEAR's Spring Seminar on Perspectives on Professional Discipline. Sixty-five participants came together for the one day seminar which followed full sessions of NCIT, Board Member Training, Executive Leadership Training, and a Drug Diversion workshop. We greatly appreciate the efforts of all those who made this event happen, and we look forward to providing future programs in British Columbia.

Spring brings the renewed growth of the season. CLEAR's growth continues to thrive as well. In the next few months we have two more regional seminars on Perspectives on Professional Discipline (Raleigh, N.C., April 29 and Toronto, June 17), Board Member Training (Washington, DC, June 2), Executive Leadership (Toronto, June 18-19), and five NCIT programs (Raleigh, N.C., April 28-30; Pasadena, Calif., May 12-14; Miami, May 19-21; Minneapolis, June 2-4; and Columbus, Ohio, June 23-25).

Many more activities are just around the corner for CLEAR's members. Membership renewal notices have been distributed.  We look forward to your continued involvement and encourage everyone to reach out to follow regulators and encourage them to share in the value of CLEAR offerings. Submissions for our Awards program are currently being accepted. Please submit your recommendations so we can continue to recognize those who are committed to excellence in regulation. You will soon be asked to participate in our stakeholder survey. Your valuable input will fuel us as we move to our next strategic planning session.

And finally, the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Small Business selected CLEAR for a shortlist of those to testify at a hearing on occupational regulation in March. This is a significant event in CLEAR's history, as it is a welcomed and deserved recognition of CLEAR's expertise in regulation.
