Following the enactment of the Regulated Health Professions Act, nurses in Ontario are required to participate in ongoing reflective practice activities as part of overall Quality Assurance requirements. On at least a yearly basis, nurses must complete a self-assessment, solicit peer feedback, and create and implement a learning program.
The innovative self-assessment tool focuses on key aspects of practice and how it relates to the Professional Standards for Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses in Ontario. The College of Nurses of Ontario's (CNO) self-assessment tool process has five distinct steps:
For CNO's 1999 annual payment form, RNs and RPNs will be asked to declare that they have participated in reflective practice and report on which requirements have been completed. In addition, they will need to identify the option they chose to meet the reflective practice requirements and explain how their practice has improved as a result.

CLEAR members are invited to attend a conference about the effects of globalization on higher education and the professions. The Foundation of Globalization in Higher Education and the Professions will address the issues, challenges and opportunities created by the globalization of the world's economies.
CLEAR is co-sponsoring the event with the Center for Quality Assurance in International Education. The meeting will be held at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., May 10-12, 1998. CLEAR members will receive discounted registration fees.
