eTherapy and the Locus of Practice
Two new online counseling sites have restricted their offerings to clients that live in the same state as the therapist. With no direction from the courts, and seeking to avoid possible legal challenges, and have moved to ensure that the therapist and client are in the same state and subject to the same laws. While this may seem to negate the power of the Net to reach beyond geographical boundaries, this action provides assurances to therapists and clients that a license to practice is in effect.

Best of Web 2000
Government Technology magazine has awarded North Carolina first place in its Best of Web annual contest in the state and local government category. The contest criteria included: Innovation - use of Web based on-line technology to deliver government service; Efficiency - or time saved; Economy - or money saved; and, Functionality - (ease of use) and improved citizen access. Geologists Licensing Program
The State of Washington legislature determined in the 2000 general session that it is in the public interest to regulate the practice of geology to safeguard life, health, and property and to promote the public welfare. The effective date of the legislation is July 1, 2001. While licensing geologists is not unique, what is interesting is the website that has been constructed by the Washington Department of Licensing to provide all of the key components of the Geologist Licensing Program. The Fall issue of CLEAR News had an article on a report by the Public Citizen Health Research Group that gave a state-by-state ranking of State medical board's disciplinary actions. Health Care Choices provides information about the number of surgeries preformed by doctors and hospitals in several states for some types of cancer and heart surgeries



Castle Worldwide, Inc. recently announced that Jeffrey T. La Riche has been named President and Chairman of its Board of Directors. Mr. La Riche, who joined Castle earlier this year as Vice President of International Development and Investor Relations, replaces founder Said K. Hayez, who is leaving to pursue other interests, according to the company's press release.
Mr. La Riche previously served as Associate Director of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution, and Acting President of the US International Cultural and Trade Center.

Wade Delk is the new Executive Director of the National Organization for Competency Assurance (NOCA). Former NOCA Director Bonnie Aubin is now Director of Marketing for Giuffrida Associates. Also, Dede Pahl has become president of NOCA succeeding Michael C. Martin. Ms. Pahl is interim president and CEO of the Certified Financial Planners Board of Standards, Inc.
