CLEAR President's Message - January 2023

Posted By: Ashley Peterson CLEAR News, President's Message,

I hope 2023 is off to a good start and that you, and those you care for, are safe and well. Earlier this month I was delighted to welcome regulatory stakeholders from across three continents to CLEAR’s first in-person Winter Symposium since January 2020. Entitled Beyond the New Normal, we considered a range of initiatives and strategies regulators can take, and are taking, with a particular focus on data, as well as the significant challenges to well-being faced by licensees/registrants, colleagues, and the wider public. I am particularly grateful to our speakers, to the committee that organized the program, and for the active participation of attendees.

Immediately following the Winter Symposium, CLEAR held its first hybrid Midyear Business Meetings, which many of the organization’s 150 committee members attended, either in-person in Savannah, Georgia, or remotely. Among the highlights were the inaugural meeting of CLEAR’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, the construction of the program for CLEAR’s 2023 annual educational conference, and numerous initiatives that support the implementation of the organization’s 2022-2024 strategic plan. Above all, it was so good to be together, whether that was remotely or in-person. During the Board meeting in Savannah, it was agreed that CLEAR’s 2024 Midyear Meeting will again be a hybrid event. Stay tuned for the meeting dates and location!

During the midyear meeting, CLEAR also provided committee members with the opportunity to sign up for our new communities, using the Mobilize platform. In addition to the overarching CLEAR Community, seven additional groups have initially been created whose focus is: policy and legal; inspectors and investigators; new committee members; regulatory innovation; vendors; executive leadership; and diversity, equity and inclusion. CLEAR’s communities allow for year-round sharing of information, resources and news, and encourage interaction across CLEAR’s membership. Shortly, members will receive an invitation to participate and for those who aren’t yet involved, we invited you to consider joining the organization.

Please also be prepared to respond to the call for awards nominations for our 2023 program, which will be released very soon. At a time when we are all adjusting to new realities, the awards program affords us an opportnuity to highlight innovation and outstanding practice in our field. Don’t be shy if you have a program, project or know of an individual that is deserving of consideration by CLEAR’s Awards Committee! Later in the Spring CLEAR will issue its call for nominations for service on the organization’s Board of Directors. If this is of potential interest, be sure to review the CLEAR Board Member Competencies and Leadership Duties. Should you have any questions about Board service, please contact Adam Parfitt.

One of this year’s highlights will undoubtedly be CLEAR’s return to Dublin, Ireland for its Seventh International Congress and Regulatory Research Day, taking place May 3-5, 2023. The final program for both events will be released in the near future, but in the meantime why not learn more about the events, and our incredible host city? Please be warned, Dublin is a very popular destination and hotel rooms are selling quickly. Reserve a room soon to avoid disappointment and I look forward to seeing you there!

Meanwhile, CLEAR continues its work on a three-pronged consulting project for the U.S. Appraisal Subcommittee (ASC), with which it has a three-year cooperative agreement. In addition to designing training programs for the appraiser regulatory community, CLEAR has been engaged with the commissioning of a study about the professional standards for appraisers in the U.S. and is working to gather census data about this population. Should you have any questions about this project, or if you believe your jurisdiction would benefit from CLEAR’s consulting services, please contact Jodie Markey of CLEAR staff.

At CLEAR, opportunities for professional development abound and while recent courses have quickly reached capacity, spaces are currently available for several upcoming in-person and online training programs. Work is underway to make additional CLEAR Learning programs available online and we are looking forward to announcing the inclusion of new programming. Should you have questions about CLEAR’s educational offerings, or wish to schedule training at your own organization, please contact Jodie Markey.

It is a privilege to serve as CLEAR’s president and to be supported by such an extraordinary Board of Directors and well over 150 volunteer committee members. I thank each of them for their considerable service. If you are a member of CLEAR and have not already signed-up for committee service, we would welcome your expertise and involvement. Please contact Stephanie Thompson for more information.

I look forward to engaging with you during the year ahead,

Line Dempsey

CLEAR President
