2027 Regional Symposia Series
The Space Between: Risk, Trust, and the Edges of Regulation
New practices and technologies are emerging faster than legislation can follow. From medical spas and unlicensed cosmetic injectables to AI health chatbots and licensees using AI in practice, regulators are increasingly asked to manage risk that sits at, or beyond, the edge of their authority. These gaps create a feedback loop: when regulated services are hard to reach, people turn to unregulated alternatives, and public trust in regulated professions and those who regulate erodes further.
The 2027 Regional Symposia will examine why the public turns away from regulated services and what regulators can do about it. Programs will explore how existing frameworks can address new risks, where jurisdictional gaps lie, and how regulators can work with community partners, policymakers, and other regulatory systems to close them. They will also look at how regulators can measure effectiveness, use data and storytelling to demonstrate value, and harness technology to collect and publish meaningful results. Participants will leave with practical strategies for making the case for effective regulation.
Program information for the Austin Symposium will be available late November 2026.
