CLEARinghouse Chats - Virtual Collaboration for the Regulatory Community
ZOOM
Event Details
These sessions are open only to CLEAR members, giving you a space to collaborate and stay connected and an opportunity to discuss timely and relevant regulatory topics.
This Chat session will focus on High Functioning Boards: Keeping board seats filled, meetings on track, and initiatives moving forward.
Across the U.S., many regulatory agencies are struggling to keep their boards fully appointed and engaged—particularly when it comes to recruiting public members. Meanwhile, Canada has taken steps to professionalize board service, resulting in stronger participation and more consistent engagement, and Australia has done some interesting work in this area. This chat will explore what strategies are working, what lessons can be shared, and how we can better support our boards in fulfilling their mandates.
This Chat session will consider questions to encourage member conversation:
- What are the main challenges your organization faces in recruiting and retaining both public and professional board members?
- How does your agency support new board members through onboarding and training, and what approaches have been most effective?
- What strategies have you found helpful in maintaining engagement and quorum, especially for boards that meet less frequently?
- How might we “professionalize” board service in ways that improve consistency and accountability while keeping volunteerism and public service values intact?
- Do you see any emerging trends in board recruitment or in the applicants who are applying for board positions?
We’ll invite open discussion and sharing among the group. Breakout rooms are moderated by members of CLEAR's Regulatory Agency Administration committee. Participants are encouraged to turn on webcams/microphones and share information about what is happening in your jurisdictions. Please join us to share your experiences and questions about board member recruitment and engagement.
