Skills for the Regulatory Administrator - Staffing a Board – December 2026

Executive and senior regulatory staff play a critical role in supporting the work of regulatory boards and councils — and doing that well requires a distinct and specialized skill set. CLEAR's Skills for the Regulatory Administrator: Staffing a Board program provides executive and senior regulatory staff with the opportunity to learn from leaders in professional and occupational regulation and from each other, developing the skills needed to effectively provide staff support at the highest level.

This program is delivered through three live virtual instructor-led sessions, each preceded by a short preparatory video that participants are asked to watch before attending. The videos introduce key concepts that will be explored and discussed in depth during the live sessions.

The three sessions cover:

• Characteristics of Regulatory Governance — Understand regulatory frameworks, distinguish between operations and policy, and recognize agency responsibilities
• Leading a Board: The Effective Board Support — Develop a strategic mindset, foster effective communication, emotional intelligence, and relationship-building, and acquire skills in collaborative leadership
• Tactics for Effective Board Leadership — Identify and mitigate risks, stay informed on global regulatory trends, and enhance communication through effective writing, dynamic presentations, and data-driven decision-making

Prior to the program start date, participants will be asked to complete a brief pre-program questionnaire so that facilitators can tailor the content to the specific needs and interests of those participating.

Once you have registered for the program, you will receive a link to register for the Welcome & Introduction Session — a live Zoom session hosted by CLEAR staff. During this session, we will walk through program expectations, how to navigate the learning portal, and what will be required of you throughout the program. Attending this session is strongly encouraged as it sets you up for success from day one.
