Investigators routinely exercise professional judgment in dynamic, high-stakes situations. The discretionary decisions made during the investigatory stage carry real consequences — for the regulant, the agency, and the investigator. This course is designed to deepen participants' understanding of ethical standards and their practical application in regulatory investigations.
The course will:
- Review models for professional conduct, including ethical standards established by statute, governmental policy, and professional codes
- Explore conflict of interest and scope of liability as they relate to public employment and investigative work
- Apply ethical principles to real-world dilemmas through case studies and scenarios
