Pakistan: restructuring of Medical & Dental Council
The Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC) has initiated a comprehensive institutional restructuring aimed at modernizing its operations, enhancing transparency, and improving service delivery across medical and dental education, licensing, and professional regulation in Pakistan. The council has conducted a review and redesign of its organizational structure, clarified job descriptions and reporting lines, and plans to fill key vacant positions to bolster financial discipline, legal compliance, and administrative efficiency. Additionally, PMDC is rolling out an enterprise-resource-planning (ERP) system to digitize processes such as registration, licensing, and accreditation, while establishing regional facilitation centers to improve access nationwide. Performanceābased evaluations and reward systems will align employee incentives with institutional goals, and internal control systems are being strengthened to underpin better governance and accountability.
