Alaska considers permanent Big Game Commercial Services Board
The Alaska Senate has unanimously approved Senate Bill 29, which mandates the appointment of a permanent executive director for the state's Big Game Commercial Services Board. This board oversees the licensing of commercial hunting guides, assistant guides, and transporters. Since 2024, the position has been temporarily funded through the state budget. If enacted, the Alaska Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development would be required to maintain this permanent role, with its costs covered by industry fees. The bill is currently awaiting a hearing in the House Resources Committee.
