ICAN Act in US Senate

The Improving Care and Access to Nurses (ICAN) Act has been introduced in the US House in April 2023 and now in the Senate in July. The Act has previously been introduced in December 2022. The Act, supported by more than 235 healthcare organizations, would remove some administrative barriers and practice restrictions to allow advanced practice registered nurses and physician assistants to be included in Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements for a broader range of services. The legislation would impact access to care for patients in rural and underserved areas, where 50% of healthcare providers who bill Medicare are APRNs or PAs.
