The Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards has announced that, effective by January 1, 2026, both the knowledge and skills portions of the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP) will be required. Currently, the new EPPP-2 clinical skills portion is optional for state licensing boards' use. The goal of the EPPP-2 is to standardize clinical skills evaluation for entry to practice. Concerns have been raised, however, about the lack of a validation process for the exam and whether a multiple-choice exam can accurately assess clincial skills. Concerns have also been raised about test bias and discrepancies in exam performance based on ethnicity. ASPBB included subject matter experts from diverse backgrounds when developing the exam and evaluated questions for racial, ethnic, and other biases.
