Philippines establishes quality assurance program for higher education

The Philippines’ main education and professional-regulation agencies have signed a joint memorandum circular to combat the proliferation of diploma mills by creating a central online registry of accredited higher-education programs. The agreement affirms the authority of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) and other bodies in monitoring the legitimacy of programs, especially in teacher education, and lays out a two-year transitional quality-assurance period for all existing programs. The move responds to concerns about unaccredited programs that undermine student outcomes and professional licensure requirements.
