Share Your Expertise at CLEAR 2027: Call for Proposals Now Open

CLEAR News, CLEAR Announcements,

The Call for Proposals for CLEAR's 47th Annual Educational Conference in Vancouver is open now through November 13, 2026. If you have a story, a study or a hard-won lesson that could help regulators elsewhere do their work better, this is your invitation to share it.

Every year, the CLEAR program is built by the regulatory community itself. Board members, registrars, investigators, examiners, researchers and policy staff from health and non-health professions bring the ideas that fill our sessions. We want to hear from regulators in every jurisdiction and at every stage of their career, whether you are a first-time presenter or a returning favorite.

What we want to hear about in 2027

The Program Committee has identified five themes that matter most to regulators right now, drawn from past program evaluations and environmental scans. Proposals on other topics are always welcome, but these are the conversations we expect to define Vancouver.

Measuring regulatory effectiveness and responding to deregulatory pressure. How are you using data and storytelling to show the value of regulation? Are you using technology or AI to collect, analyze and publish regulatory data? How are you navigating political pressure, protecting regulatory independence, and responding to deregulation pushed in the name of workforce access?

Regulating emergent practices. Think IV and medical spas, unlicensed injectables and filler services, and licensees' use of AI and new technology. We want to see how regulators are closing jurisdictional gaps and applying existing frameworks to new risks.

Public trust, legitimacy and the limits of jurisdiction. Wellness influencers and AI health chatbots are filling the space left by eroding trust and by barriers to regulated care such as cost, wait times and availability. What role should regulators play in shaping legislative responses, and how can they become the voice legislators turn to, rather than relying on professional associations?

Collaboration and engagement. Share how you are improving transparency, reducing barriers for the public, and working with community service providers, advocates and researchers. We are especially interested in how "public interest," "public protection" and "public safety" are understood, misunderstood and put into practice.

Governance and leadership. Bring your work on innovative board models, collaboration across regulatory systems with different structures and terminology, board training and board-staff dynamics, and leadership development and succession planning.

Pick the format that fits your idea

Not every great idea is a lecture. You can propose a session in any of five formats:

  • Presentation or lecture, where one or more speakers present material.
  • Moderated panel discussion, where a moderator guides two or more panelists before opening the floor to questions.
  • Facilitated roundtable, where attendees spend most of the session discussing among themselves.
  • Workshop, built around hands-on activities for attendees.
  • Poster, presented during a scheduled Poster Session where authors meet attendees one-on-one.

Every session sits within one of CLEAR's four tracks: Regulatory Administration and Governance; Compliance, Discipline and Enforcement; Entry to Practice Standards and Continuing Competence; and Testing and Examinations.

How to make your proposal stand out

The strongest proposals share four qualities. They are evidence-based, grounded in research and data. They are practical, sending attendees home with handouts, links or strategies they can use right away. They offer new ideas or approaches worth learning. And they have international applicability, speaking to regulators across jurisdictions and occupations.

Before you start, gather the following:

  • Contact details for your coordinator, speakers or poster authors, and moderator. You can still submit if not every speaker is confirmed.
  • A session title and the track it belongs to.
  • A description of up to 500 words covering major themes, challenges, lessons learned and relevance to other regulators.
  • At least three measurable learning objectives.
  • Your preferred format and session length.

All proposals go through the online portal on Pheedloop, which lets you save your work and keep editing until the deadline. The Proposal Process FAQs are worth a read before you begin. Please note that the 2027 conference is in-person only.
