Tanzania: teacher internship and licensing program introduced
Tanzania has introduced mandatory teaching licenses and a structured internship program for new teachers as part of a broader effort to improve education quality and strengthen professional standards. Under the reforms, graduates seeking to enter the teaching profession must complete a supervised internship and obtain a teaching license before practicing independently. The new framework also establishes continuing professional development expectations and provides mechanisms for monitoring teacher competence and professional conduct throughout their careers. The reforms are intended to enhance the quality and accountability of the teaching workforce while aligning teacher preparation, licensure, and ongoing professional oversight with national education improvement goals.
