Ukraine: regulation for psychological counselors does not gain traction
A petition calling on Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers to establish legislative regulation of psychological counseling and psychotherapeutic practice failed to receive sufficient public support for consideration, collecting 32 of the required 25,000 votes. The petition argued that the absence of clear regulation allows individuals without appropriate education, clinical training, supervision, or professional accountability to offer psychological services and use professional titles, potentially placing vulnerable clients at risk. It proposed establishing qualification requirements, regulating the use of professional titles, creating an official registry of certified practitioners, establishing liability for unauthorized practice or misleading representations, and distinguishing among psychologists, psychotherapists, coaches, consultants, mentors, and personal development trainers.
