Alberta: proposed reforms for internationally educated professionals

Alberta’s proposed Bill 10 would eliminate, in most cases, the requirement for internationally trained professionals to have Canadian work experience in order to register with regulated bodies. Under the changes to the Fair Registration Practices Act, regulatory organizations would be barred from demanding proof of Canadian experience unless there are specific public-health or safety concerns. The reform also aims to create clearer timelines for registration decisions, both interim and final. These changes are designed to address labor shortages in key sectors by making it easier for foreign-educated professionals to work in Alberta.
