Iowa: two proposals for board consolidation

The Iowa House and Senate are considering two different versions of proposals to consolidate boards and commissions. A 2023 law created the Iowa Boards and Commissions Review Committee, which made recommendations on the elimination and merging of Iowa's boards. The Senate proposal would eliminate 111 of the current 256 boards and commissions. A competing House bill would merge or eliminate 49 boards and commissions. Lobbyists and representatives from some professions expressed concern about merging the boards of different fields particularly as related to oversight and expertise in disciplinary matters.
