Professional Standards Authority review of General Dental Council

The Professional Standards Authority in the UK has released their performance review of the General Dental Council, showing that the regulator met 16 of the 18 standards of good regulation. Both unmet standards have to do with not meeting time standards - the time it takes the regulator to process applications and the timeliness of dealing with fitness-to-practice cases. The backlog in application processing was due in part to changes in legislation to register dental professionals, which resulted in a surge of applications. The General Dental Council has also expanded its casework team to help reduce delays in fitness-to-practice.
