Revisiting CLEAR’s 2026 Regional Symposia Series in Vancouver

CLEAR News,

Regulators and regulatory partners from eight provinces and more than two dozen colleges and organizations gathered in Vancouver on April 27 for the first event in CLEAR’s 2026 Regional Symposia series. The day brought together regulatory leaders and professionals for meaningful conversations focused on the evolving challenges facing regulation and public protection across Canada.

Former Vancouver Mayor Kennedy Stewart opened the program with a thoughtful discussion on the changing dynamics between regulators and government. His remarks highlighted the importance of open dialogue, responsive leadership, and understanding the growing impact of artificial intelligence on regulatory work and decision-making.

Throughout the symposium, speakers and panelists explored a range of timely and complex issues shaping today’s regulatory environment. Sessions emphasized the importance of building strong relationships with civil servants and legislators, advancing conversations around cultural safety and reconciliation, and navigating government-mandated change while maintaining a clear focus on public protection.

One of the day’s strongest themes emerged during the afternoon Roundtable Discussions, where attendees shared practical experiences and strategies from their own jurisdictions and organizations. Conversations reflected the ongoing tension regulators face between protecting the public and managing the unintended consequences that can arise from regulatory action. Participants also discussed the need for adaptability in a rapidly changing environment and the importance of collaboration, communication, and shared learning across the regulatory community.

The Vancouver symposium set the tone for the 2026 series by reinforcing the value of regional dialogue and creating space for candid, solution-focused conversations among regulators and regulatory partners.

CLEAR’s Regional Symposia series continues this spring with two upcoming events:

Regional Symposium, Toronto | May 14, 2026
Regional Symposium, Halifax | June 12, 2026
