Georgia considers licensure exemption for hair stylists

A bill in Georgia to allow practitioners to style hair and apply makeup without a cosmetology license has narrowly passed the House. Supporters of the bill claim that these practices that don't include chemicals or intensive heat do not pose a risk for harm and should not require the time and expense to obtain a full cosmetology license. Opponents of the bill claim that training is required in sanitation and sterilizing of equipment as well as specific techniques to handle different hair types without damage.
