Illinois: Board of Nursing could have more authority over education programs

Education & Training,

A bill introduced in Illinois aims to enhance the oversight authority of the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation's (IDFPR) Board of Nursing over nursing education programs statewide. The proposed legislation would empower the Board to oversee various aspects of both new and existing nursing programs, including accreditation standards, program remediation, curriculum, faculty qualifications, and the approval of program directors. Additionally, the bill stipulates that the IDFPR may rescind the nursing license of individuals who have completed or obtained credit from programs failing to meet established requirements, thereby ensuring that nursing education aligns with national standards and maintaining the quality of healthcare services in Illinois.
