Illinois: stricter regulations for funeral homes

In response to a case of multiple mis-identified remains, the Illinois Senate has passed legislation to tighten funeral home regulations. The bill now moves to the House. The legislation would require the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation to inspect a funeral home within 10 days if it receives a complaint about mishandling of human remains. Crematoriums would have to maintain "chain of custody" records throughout all phases of the cremation process. Mishandling of such records would be a Class 4 felony.
