Philippines to modernize midwifery bill
Senator Christopher “Bong” Go has filed Senate Bill No. 675, known as the “New Philippine Midwifery Bill,” intended to bolster the midwifery profession in the Philippines. The proposed legislation aims to enhance maternal and infant health outcomes by improving the quality, accessibility, and scope of midwifery services. Among its provisions, the bill seeks to clearly define midwives' scope of practice—such as managing normal pregnancies and identifying complications for timely referral—to ensure safe and professional care.
