Established in 1981, the Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario (RIBO) is the self-regulatory body that licenses and oversees general insurance brokers in Ontario. With a mandate to protect the public interest, RIBO regulates the professional conduct and competence of over 22,000 licensees across the province. As Ontario’s insurance broker regulator, we play a critical role in ensuring consumer trust and maintaining high standards within the profession.
RIBO’s core responsibilities include setting qualification standards, licensing individuals and firms, monitoring compliance, developing regulatory policy, and addressing professional conduct concerns through complaints and discipline processes.
We currently have a vacancy and are seeking a full-time Communications Advisor to join our Policy & External Affairs team.
Position Summary
RIBO is seeking a detail‑oriented and collaborative Communications Advisor to support the delivery of its communications strategy and advance its public protection mandate.
Reporting to the Manager, Policy and External Affairs, the Communications Advisor plays an important role in developing and delivering high‑quality communications products across a variety of channels. This includes content creation, social media management, website updates, and coordination of key publications and events.
The role supports clear, consistent, and accessible communications that enhance transparency, promote understanding of regulatory requirements, and engage key audiences including licensees, applicants, consumers, and industry stakeholders.
The ideal candidate is a strong communicator with excellent writing skills in a digital environment, sound editorial judgement, and a keen eye for detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, collaborative, and regulatory environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Content Development & Communications

- Draft, edit, and proofread a range of communications materials, including newsletters, websites, blog posts, guidance documents, presentations, and news releases.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to translate complex regulatory, policy, and technical information into clear, accurate, and engaging content.
- Ensure consistency in messaging, tone, and branding across all communications materials and channels.
- Develop content tailored to key audiences, including licensees, applicants, consumers, and industry stakeholders.
- Ensure communications are written in plain language and align with accessibility standards and best practices (e.g., AODA compliance).
2. Digital & Social Media

- Support the development and delivery of social media content to engage audiences and promote organizational initiatives.
- Monitor social media platforms and contribute to ongoing improvements in reach, engagement, and effectiveness.
- Track and analyze performance metrics to evaluate communications activities and inform continuous improvement.
3. Website & Content Management

- Draft, edit, and publish website content in collaboration with internal teams.
- Maintain website structure and ensure content is current, accessible, and aligned with organizational priorities.
- Support the ongoing improvement of digital content and user experience.
4. Publications, Events & Coordination

- Assist in coordinating the development and production of publications, including newsletters, reports, and educational materials.
- Support virtual and in‑person events, including member meetings and outreach initiatives.
- Coordinate with external vendors (e.g., designers, videographers) to support communications projects.
5. Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

- Work closely with cross‑functional teams to support organizational priorities and ensure alignment in communications activities.
- Provide input on communications processes, tools, and practices to support continuous improvement.
- Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in support of organizational modernization initiatives.

6. Stakeholder Communications & Regulatory Support

- Support the development of clear and timely communications related to regulatory updates, stakeholder issues, and organizational initiatives.
- Contribute to communications that support governance, policy changes, and reputational considerations.
- Assist in responding to general inquiries and providing communications support across the organization.
Qualifications (Required)
- Post‑secondary education in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
- Experience developing digital content, including familiarity with website content management systems (e.g., WordPress) and social media platforms.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound editorial judgment and communicate complex information clearly and accurately.
- Understanding of confidentiality, accuracy, and reputational considerations in a professional or regulatory environment.
Qualifications (Assets)
- Experience in a regulatory, public sector, or not‑for‑profit environment.
- Familiarity with communicating policy, regulatory updates, or governance-related content.
- Basic knowledge of graphic design, video production, or digital content creation tools.
- Experience with analytics tools to measure and report on communications effectiveness.
- Interest in public policy, regulation, or the insurance sector.
