Beginning July 1, nurses in Kosovo who fail to renew their professional licenses before the expiration date will be subject to a financial penalty under a new policy by the Kosovo Chamber of Nurses (OIK). The updated rule imposes a 50% surcharge on the standard 30-euro renewal fee for late applications. While OIK leadership says the measure is intended to encourage timely compliance and prevent practice with expired licenses, some nurses have expressed concern about fairness—especially in cases where delays stem from system issues or administrative challenges. Legal experts have also questioned whether the penalty is proportionate and have called for a review of its potential impact on practitioners. The Chamber states that revenue from fees supports professional development activities.
