New Brunswick to investigate nurses exam

A court ruling in New Brunswick will allow the Official Languages Commissioner to examine complaints against the Nurses Association of New Brunswick regarding use of the US National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses and high failure rates among francophone candidates. Complaints were first raised in 2106 about the quality of the exam translation from English into French and the lack of adequate study materials in French, with additional complaints in 2019 and 2020. The Nurses Association has previously tried to block the investigation, but the Court of Appeal ruled that it is within the "quasi-constitutional mandate [of the Commissioner] to oversee the protection of language rights under the Act."
