Utah establishes Residential Construction Fraud Task Force
Utah state officials report that over the past three years, residents have collectively lost $32 million to residential construction fraud, with average losses of about $302,000 per new-build consumer. In response, the Utah Department of Commerce has established a Residential Construction Fraud Task Force, bringing together representatives from the Department of Commerce, Attorney General’s office, law enforcement, legislators, and industry stakeholders. The task force is charged with launching aggressive enforcement efforts, aided by Utah’s first dedicated construction-fraud prosecutor, as well as implementing consumer education campaigns and pursuing regulatory reforms to close legal gaps, train local prosecutors, and promote safe contracting practices.
