Several states introduce alternative pathways for CPA licensure

Alt Pathways to Licensure,

Several states have recently enacted or proposed legislation to introduce alternative pathways to Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensure, aiming to address the accounting talent shortage. These states include Ohio, Virginia, Utah, Georgia, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Iowa, and New Jersey. The new pathways typically allow candidates to qualify with a bachelor's degree, two years of professional experience, and passing the CPA exam, or with a master's degree, one year of experience, and passing the exam. The traditional pathway of 150 college credit hours, one year of experience, and passing the exam remains available in most cases. These legislative efforts are designed to reduce barriers to entry into the accounting profession and attract more individuals to the field.
