Vietname to establish licensure examination for health professionals
Beginning in 2027, doctors in Vietnam will be required to pass professional skills examinations as part of a broader effort to standardize and enhance the quality of the medical workforce. This initiative was discussed at an international conference on medical education held in Ho Chi Minh City, co-organized by the National Medical Council, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, and Yonsei University. Deputy Minister of Health Tran Van Thuan emphasized that the move aligns with the 2023 amended Law on Medical Examination and Treatment and represents a strategic reform aimed at improving training quality and promoting international integration. The National Medical Council, an independent body established by the Prime Minister, is leading the development of a transparent and objective assessment system. The reform will shift licensing practices from a reliance on diplomas and administrative procedures to competency-based evaluations that include both practical skills and professional ethics.
